Ian Paul Morrison was born in suburban Chicago Hinsdale, Illinois where he attended elementary and high schools.

Morrison is a graduate of Chicago’s acclaimed Columbia College where as a freshman he entered the school’s advertising and design program. However, his skill as a draftsman and illustrator soon surfaced.

Based on his extraordinary drawing skills, members of the Columbia faculty encouraged Ian to focus on and develop his drawing and painting skills in order to pursue a promising career in the fine arts.

While still an undergraduate student, and somewhat of a prodigy, Morrison demonstrated the skill, visual sensibilities and painterly techniques reminiscent of Renaissance masters such as Rubens, Titian and Michelangelo.

After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Columbia, Morrison attended the world-renowned School of Representational Art where he studied under Bruno Surdo.

Surdo was trained, and trains his students, in the demanding representational style of the great European masters. Like Surdo, the work of Ian Morrison evokes a passion for nature and the human form.
